Founded in 1973 in Helsinki, Finland, as the International Association of Institutes of
Export, IATTO's name changed to the International Association of Trade Training
Organisations in 1994 to better reflect the broader nature of the activities of its
members.
Goals of the Association
| To provide a forum for the exchange of information and ideas on international trade issues, as well as trends and techniques in training and education | |
| To stimulate an awareness amongst members and other interested parties of the need for quality in the delivery of international trade training and education | |
To equip members and other interested parties with the knowledge and tools to enhance the professional development of trade practitioners in their respective countries. |

| To add to the body of knowledge about international trade by engaging in and/or supporting relevant research initiatives and international collaborative ventures. | |
Activities of the Association
All activities are based on shared responsibilities and active participation from the members working through the Board and various working parties.
IATTO offers:
| an annual Forum hosted by a member country. Forums have been held in the UK, the Netherlands, Norway, Canada, Switzerland, India, Austria, Denmark, Australia, Finland, France, Singapore, Belgium, Germany, Italy, Israel, Turkey, South Africa and the USA. The 2008 gathering is scheduled to take place in Stockholm, Sweden |

| an international accreditation system Providers of training and/or education in the field of international trade can be formally accredited if they meet the quality-related criteria laid down by IATTO. |
|
| an ongoing exchange of teaching material, case studies, education methods, students and faculty between member organisations | |
| co-operation in research and training projects | |
IATTO membership
Three categories of membership are currently offered: institutional, organisational and individual.
